Autumnal Scene

Let’s forget for a second that I started this painting a while back and celebrate the fact I am showing it off at its correct time of year!

Having said that, autumn is running late this year and at the end of October the leaves in Sheffield are still mostly green!

There have been a couple of frosts but the weather has been so varied (and let’s not mention storm Babet where a month’s worth of rain fell in 24 hours) I really don’t know whether we will have a pretty autumn.

I think that if we are honest with ourselves, perfect autumn days are extremely rare; You know the sort of thing, crisp piles of crunchy leaves, bedewed cobwebs in the hedges, the blaze of amber leaves against a perfect blue sky, foraging for chestnuts and poking at fungi before heading home for a bowl of soup and crusty bread.

There is a place however where a perfect autumn day can live on forever and that is in a painting.

A more reliable and frequent supply of my art and metalsmithing can be found on Instagram. See you there perhaps?

And yet, those who love autumn
